The Japan Foundation and Modern Culture bring Hiromi Kawakami to Foyles for this event as part of Japan Now 2017.
Kawakami has been a long standing favourite of Foyles customers and booksellers alike. Perfectly constructed, poetic and moving, Strange Weather in Tokyo was the first of Kawakami’s novels to be published in English, introducing readers to the dreamlike state of her writing.
Nakano Thrift Shop is similar in its delicate and funny portrayal of Japanese life. Exploring the mystery that lurks in the ordinary, her second novel traces the seemingly imperceptible threads that weave together a community and the knots that bind us to one another.
Now in 2017 Pushkin Press will be publishing the highly surreal short story collection, Record of a Night too Brief. Awarded the Akutagawa Prize in 1996, this anthology is set to once again captivate its English readers.
